In 1998, Fabio Marchionni took over his family’s estate in the high hills of the Matelica zone in the Marche region of Italy. The 15-hectare property is nestled in the hills alongside the Esino River between the Apen- nine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. Fabio previously completed his degree in agriculture, writing his thesis on Verdicchio di Matelica. He then moved to Germany to study grape cultivation and winemaking techniques as well as to intern with an organic and biodynamic producer in the upper Rhine valley. These experiences all contributed to Marchionni’s sole product, the extremely classic single varietal, Verdicchio di Matelica. Under Fabio’s direction, the Collestefano Verdicchio has received multiple two and three glass (bicchieri) ratings from the renowned Italian wine publication, Gambero Rosso.
